And now, the end is near, and so I face the final curtain…
…were not lyrics that I heard today
Saturday 9th
I drifted off to sleep after midnight listening to
“Desperadoes under the eaves” by Warren Zevon
played on my iPod which I use as an alarm clock. I have become slightly obsessed with this song lately; by the way that the sophisticated wordplay and (largely) solo voice of the first verse is replaced in the second by a simple hum and sweet harmonies.
Listened to next to no music today as I was out on the streets in my new (temporary) job as Census Collector.

They wanted to disappear. And they would have got away with it too, if it wasn’t for us meddling kids and our Internets. The KLF’s slow dismantling of their legacy coincided with the spread of MP3s. By the time of 2K’s deliberately shoddy comeback, I’d be surprised if anything they’d done wasn’t online somewhere. One of the first things I did when I got online in 1995 was look up Lazlo Nibble’s KLF mailing list – already too rich and busy for my university inbox. When I started my own site a contributor mailed me a CD-R of the White Room demos, and those same 128kbps files are still circulating now.
So why not continue the tradition? The KLF never had a proper best of, box set, or anything like that. This is my attempt at one. I’ve tried to give all the MP3s their proper titles, years, artist credits, and I’ve slapped on some artwork, but I’m an amateur at this and it’s not even displaying right in my iTunes, let alone yours. I’ve also not tried to normalise the volume or anything. The music’s all there, though. It’s a 144 Mb download on Rapidshare, so it might take a while.

This is AWESOME, and I really want to download it, but RapidShare has failed on me twice now. Any chance of a ZShare or other mirror? Could anyone else who grabbed it throw it up somewhere else? I don’t mean to be needy but I just can’t get it to work!
I’ve put it on Zshare - hope this works!
Thanks for this - I’ve enjoyed this week
At one stage I didn’t think I’d hear any music at all today but I managed to catch the rerun of Top of the Pops from this week in 1976. This was not quite as dire as last week, despite being presented by Noel Edmunds. It began with:
Theme from ‘NCIS’
I watched last night’s episode online before heading off to work with an artist at nearby Primary School. I find this show oddly soothing.
I’m always a sucker for maps and diagrams so this site is a source of frequent delight. I like this idea but I’m sure that more could be added - Dylan and the Pogues for example
Music writer Nick Southall is trying to find out how we listen to music and what we listen to, as explained over at his website.
Expect updates, if you can bear them:
